Greysie Grey & Relationships
Here is a photo of Greysie, a Congo grey that I placed in a new home.
It is not easy to interview and educate those that want to adopt a parrot. I try to portray the reality of these complicated beings.
What is difficult to relay is that the parrot as well as the people go through changes. Changes in moods, situations, and life phases.
Greysie's new dad was having difficulty with the relationship that developed between Greysie and his other half. Jealousy is just under the surface in most parrots. If a mate bond is created with a parrot...look out whomever comes between!
This is why I can't stress enough the healthy style relationship with a parrot. Teacher/Parent! It is so easy to become enamoured with cuddles and skritches and giving and receiving love. But when dealing with wild instincts, it is vital to not allow "that kind of bond" to get started.
Even the dog whisperer tells folks to maintain pack leadership. The dogs and the parrots feel better when someone is in charge and it's not them. The happy ending is that Greysie is going back to her original family. They're prepared to take her back and try again!
