The Happy Couple

This is Eddie (background) and Erica (foreground).

They live quite happily enjoying the freedom to fly around their home at will. Erica was thought to be a male...Eric. But when Eddie was brought into the flock, Eric turned into Erica! It turned into love. They eventually began mating and shredding the books in the bookcase to create their love nest. This was not a safe option. A nestbox was provided to insure safety and security for the tiel family.

Now, Eddie stays all day in the box manipulating the eggs and incubating them. Erica comes out when I arrive to sit on my shoulder while I read out loud to her. She remains very tame and loving. Eddie comes out in the evening when Erica relieves him of his duties. He and Erica will raise their babies together, hopefully with great success. After that? Who knows.

Do I recommend this for all parrot owners? No! But in this situation, it was the best resolution to a pair that has freedom in the home. To avoid this, try to insure same-sex companion birds.
